Why does my Dial-up connection disconnect from the Internet?
If you have questions regarding unwanted internet disconnects (dropped calls) you may contact the Internet help desk at 845-7800. They have access to modem logs and can explain the reason you were disconnected.
There are several limits which are referred to in the acceptable use policy, the primary reasons for an unwanted disconnects that are not a result of the customer’s modem/computer are:
- 12 hour forced time out (if a computer is dialed-up for more than 12 hours the line will be dropped, line can be redialed if all modems* are open)
- 20 minute idle (if 20 minutes of inactivity are detected, the modem in the central office will drop the line)
- 4 hour forced logout if all modems are busy (if all modems* are busy, the line will drop after 4 hours of use to give other customers a chance to dial-up, line can be redialed if all modems are open)
