Instructions for Windows Vista DNS Conversion

  1. Left-click “Start” in the lower left hand corner of your desktop. A menu should appear on your display. Locate and left-click “Control Panel.”
  2. A new window labeled “Control Panel” will appear on your display. In the blue-green column on the left-hand side of this window locate and left-click the line labeled “Classic View.”
  3. The Control Panel window should now display many icons controlling system features. Locate and double left-click the icon labeled “Network and Sharing Center.”
  4. A new window will be displayed on your screen labeled “Network and Sharing Center.” In the blue-green column located to the left hand side of the window, locate and left-click the line labeled “Manage network connections.”
  5. A new window will be displayed labeled “Network Connections.” Locate and right click the icon labeled “Local Area Connection.” A menu will be displayed to the right of the Local Area Connection icon. Locate and left-click the heading “Properties” under this menu. You may be prompted with a windows stating “Windows needs your permission to continue”. Left-click the “Continue” button.
  6. A new window will be displayed labeled “Local Area Connection Properties.” Locate and left-click the heading labeled “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)” and the heading should be highlighted in blue. Left-click the button labeled “Properties.”
  7. A new window labeled “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) Properties” Note: If both “Obtain an IP address automatically” and “Use the following DNS server addresses” are dotted in, click “OK”. You may disregard these instructions and do not need to continue. If not please, please proceed. Towards the bottom of this windows locate the fields labeled “Preferred DNS server” and “Alternate DNS server.” Left-click into each of these fields and delete the numbers “206.10.62.4” and “206.10.62.3” by hitting the “Backspace” key on your keyboard.
  8. In the now-blank “Preferred DNS server” and “Alternate DNS server” fields, type in the numbers “66.242.88.4” and “66.242.89.4”, respectively into each field.
  9. Left-click “OK.” Left-click “Close.” The DNS conversion should now be complete and you should be able to view webpages.
